Cocoons are soaked to loosen the silk filament; Filament from several cocoons are wound to produce a single thread; A pattern is tied into the weft (width-wise) threads before they are dyed.

Weft yarn after the dye-resisting material has been removed; Yarn being wound onto bobins prior to weaving; The final pattern appears in the woven fabric.
