1) I spent 4 days in Havana and usually walked these long, crumbling streets twice a day. They connected Centro and Old Havana, the places of greatest interest to tourists, to my hotel in the leafy suburb, Vedado. 2) In old Havana bicycle rickshaws are common mode of transportation. Holes in the streets, dog shit and water tumbling off balconies were a greater walking hazard than traffic. 3) In the last picture the Capitol can be seen at the end of a busy, sunny street.

4) In Old Havana most of the businesses were quite small with the customer standing on the street. In larger shops the shelves were mostly empty. 5) While resting on a park bench I talked to a bus driver. I ask what kind he drove and he said, “A camel,” seen here on a Vedado street. 6) Laundry and crowds of people: that pretty much summarized the Havana I saw. The only stores that seemed to have a selection of goods were the “convertible pesos” stores. “Convertible pesos” are the currency the tourist use. I was frequently asked to exchange them for Cuban peso.
